The Hawkeyes (2 – 0) beat Syracuse (0 – 2) 20 – 13 last Saturday at Syracuse in double overtime. Iowa had a very tough road test without starting QB Drew Tate. Tate was out with a injury giving Jason Manson a chance to start for the first time. I realized after the game started that Manson was a very bad idea at QB. He end up throwing 202 yards with no touchdown passes and 4 interceptions. The Hawkeyes were very lucky to leave Syracuse with a victory. Iowa’s defense won the game for the Hawks by stopping syracuse seven times in a row at the 2 yard line. Iowa is now getting ready to face inter-state rivals Iowa State Cyclones (2 – 0). Iowa also found out that Drew tate is cleared to play this weekend and will start against the Cyclones. Last year Tate was knocked out in the first quarter with an injury as Iowa got beat 23 – 3 at Trice Staduim in Ames. I believe the Hawkeyes are looking for some payback from the game last year. I believe Iowa will win this game and send the Cyclones playing with their first lost of the season. Iowa State has struggled in the first two games of the season with opens up holes for Iowa to exploit.
Here is the games that are coming up for Iowa.
9/16 Iowa State at Kinnick Stadium (Inter-state rival this weekend)
9/23 At Illinois (Big Ten Opener)
9/30 #1 Ohio State at Kinnick Stadium (Possibility decides who will win the Big Ten Conference)
10/7 Purdue at Kinnick Stadium (Homecoming)
