The Hawkeyes (2 – 0) beat Syracuse (0 – 2) 20 – 13 last Saturday at Syracuse in double overtime. Iowa had a very tough road test without starting QB Drew Tate. Tate was out with a injury giving Jason Manson a chance to start for the first time. I realized after the game started that Manson was a very bad idea at QB. He end up throwing 202 yards with no touchdown passes and 4 interceptions. The Hawkeyes were very lucky to leave Syracuse with a victory. Iowa’s defense won the game for the Hawks by stopping syracuse seven times in a row at the 2 yard line. Iowa is now getting ready to face inter-state rivals Iowa State Cyclones (2 – 0). Iowa also found out that Drew tate is cleared to play this weekend and will start against the Cyclones. Last year Tate was knocked out in the first quarter with an injury as Iowa got beat 23 – 3 at Trice Staduim in Ames. I believe the Hawkeyes are looking for some payback from the game last year. I believe Iowa will win this game and send the Cyclones playing with their first lost of the season. Iowa State has struggled in the first two games of the season with opens up holes for Iowa to exploit.
Here is the games that are coming up for Iowa.
9/16 Iowa State at Kinnick Stadium (Inter-state rival this weekend)
9/23 At Illinois (Big Ten Opener)
9/30 #1 Ohio State at Kinnick Stadium (Possibility decides who will win the Big Ten Conference)
10/7 Purdue at Kinnick Stadium (Homecoming)

[...] It’s a given. The Wolverines are 16-1 when Mike Hart runs for 100 yards or more, and his 126 yards against Iowa were vital to holding off a relentless attack from the Hawkeyes. Is Stopping Hart the key to victory? Look At the Numbers. [...]
I agree that stopping Hart is a very big key to beat Michigan. Iowa was trailing 3-0 at halftime due to only allowing Hart to run 7 yards in the first half. Iowa didn’t take advantage of this. If Iowa scored a couple TD’s in the first half then the outcome would be closer or then Iowa escaping with a win. THis didn’t happen due to several key injuries Iowa has had on the Offensive line. But there is always 2009. Let’s see how Michigan is then Super Mario and Hart has graduated or leave early for the NFL draft. I believe 2009 will be a rebuilding year for Michigan in 2009. Iowa will already have there rebuilding year in 2007.
